Leisure and Tourism

Students working in a classroom at Passmores School and Technology College

GCSE Leisure and Tourism (Double award) is a subject that we offer to students with an interest in pursuing a career in this growing industry. Indeed, it is the fastest growing industry in the world, so the future is bright for those pupils wishing to work in sports centres, national parks, hotels, travel agents, the transport industry, catering, ......the list is vast!

This is a vocational course: it gives a broad overview of the industry and business of organisations that provide for people's leisure time and companies that specialise in travel and tourism. In addition, the content of the course is tailored to industry’s main needs - marketing and customer service.

It is a 'hands on' course - there are many visits involved - Cambridge, London, Disneyland Paris, as well as local visits to hotels, airports, parks, leisure centres and zoos. The visits provide data and evidence for the courseworks, which account for two thirds of the final grade. Role play and work experience are also evaluated for the customer service element of the course.
