Geography

Geography comes alive at Passmores! The Geography team are three dedicated teachers, combining enthusiasm and experience to deliver an innovative and stimulating curriculum; we encourage enquiry and independent learning through units that are relevant and topical, and include field work at the heart of our delivery. At GCSE level we organise a residential field trip for our students. Locations have included the beautiful coasts of Dorset, and the green valleys of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales.
Studying geography gives pupils an understanding of the world around them – because geography is all around us! Just watch the news, and see Geography in Action! All pupils will study geography as a discrete subject in Year 8 and 9, but it is also integral to the year 7 PCC course and links to many subjects at GCSE.
In Key Stage 3 we cover themes such as the Olympics, Fantastic Places, Impossible Places, Adventure Landscapes, and places such as China, Brazil Australia and India.
At KS4 we follow the OCR syllabus, which links People and Place, Natural Hazards, Water and Work and Development. The field trip is followed up with two pieces of controlled coursework worth 25% of the final grade.
