English Literature

English students at work at Passmores School and Technology College.

The English Literature course enables students to explore and evaluate the significance of the written word on different individuals, societies and cultures throughout time. Through group and in-class discussions, live exposure and in-depth analysis of poetry, prose and drama, students interact with and evaluate the deeper messages, themes and effects of a piece of literature. They develop skills in creative and critical thinking by looking beyond the simple reading of texts, as students begin to form an understanding of, and make judgments about, the greater purpose and importance of literature in our world.
