The Drama department is run by Mrs. Laura Baker, who teaches the subject with Miss. Karen Warncken and Mr. Paul Tarling. All members of staff are passionate about their subject and see it as an important part of the curriculum. Though performance makes up a significant part of the course, it is not central to the ethos of the subject; rather the focus is the development of social skills, the ability to work in a team and encouraging confidence. 

In Key Stage 3, pupils are introduced to these skills through a variety of Schemes of Work which deal with historical, social and cultural issues, these range from the texts of Shakespeare, through the story of the Titanic and to the subject of Tolerance in our society. 

At BTEC level, we currently teach using guidelines from the EDEXCEL examination board. The course is delivered through three separate units which are; Understanding Drama, The Performing Arts Process and Devising Plays. The focus at this level is on the history and development of Drama, working as part of a Production company to produce a show and writing original works. Within the units the students are set assignments based on the Grading criteria outlined by the examination board; there is no written examination.   Within the two year course students experience a range of Drama styles, including Pantomime, Restoration Theatre, Tragedy and Farce through practical sessions. They are also taught about the building blocks of theatre, and how to successfully create their own work.
