Child Development

Aims
This is an exciting, stimulating and rigorous course, suitable for students who wish to work in a professional capacity with young children. 
Contents of the Course
The course has 3 compulsory units which must be passed in order to gain the qualification.  These include:-
1. Understanding Children’s Development
Will give learners an opportunity to learn about children and to use this as a basis for working in the childcare area.
 
2. Keeping Children Safe
The main purpose of the unit is for learners to gain an understanding of the various considerations needed in order to keep children safe.
 
3. Communication with Children and Adults
Learners will learn to interact and communicate with children, which is different from the way they communicate with others.
The course runs over 2 years and requires students to work independently, have good personal organisational skills and self-discipline.
Professional Practice
Students will demonstrate their professional capability working with a range of children aged 0-8 years in a real life environment. They will complete 2 work experience visits and gain excellent personal skills in the process.
Assessment
All of the units are assessed by assignments at Pass, Merit or Distinction level which equates to 2 GCSE grades A* - C.
