L7CBN

Hello and welcome to L7CBN. My name is Carrie Billington and I am one of the tutors for Lion House, ROAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!
I am a teacher of English and BTEC Media Studies and including this year I have been teaching for six years. Having in taught in another secondary school in
I thoroughly enjoy being a teacher and I gain a huge amount of satisfaction watching pupils progress through the school and go on to become successful individuals in their chosen career paths. One of the best parts of being a teacher is the opportunity to become a tutor for a particular set of students. I enjoy this as it allows me to gain an area of knowledge on the pupils which is more about themselves as individual characters rather than what they are achieving academically. I am able to understand what interests the pupils have outside of school. Having this knowledge enables me to encourage positive pupil progress throughout the school. We are now moving into our third year of the vertical tutor group system and providing pupils with the opportunity to get to know their peers and watch members of the tutor group, in other year groups, helps pupils to become much more supportive and ambitious.
So far L7CBN has had a constructive beginning to the 2010/2011 academic year, which on the whole has been very encouraging. With the range of year groups in L7CBN, the pupils, especially our New Year Seven cohort, have found it useful, gaining knowledge from older pupils who they have got to know and now find more approachable. The mentoring system that the school has in place assists with this and on the whole I am impressed by their participation and motivation. The group is a real mixed bunch of ‘lion cubs’ with lots of different interests and talents such as mathematicians, singers, basketball fans, Scouts, future actors and impressive authors.
We WON the House Cup the in 2009/2010 academic year and when you have managed to gain it once through hard work and determination, you don’t want to give it back and as a tutor group we aim to make sure that we work harder than last year so that we won’t have to!!
Outside of school, I enjoy a wide range of activities such as running, dancing, swimming, watching plays and concerts and travelling. However my main interest is Music and has been from a very young child. I play the piano and the flute but one of my favourite pastimes is singing and I currently sing with a well known choral group, Cantate. I sang with the youth choir section of this group whilst at school myself but now it’s fantastic to still be able to sing an amazing repertoire with old friends. I also enjoy mixing with friends and family.
Contacting me at the school can be made by using the comment section in your child’s planner or emailing me using the address below.
I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know you throughout this year.
